MAJ David Van Horn
Major David F. Van Horn holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Auburn University, having graduated in 1991 and commissioned through Auburn Army ROTC as an Armor officer in 1992. He spent four years as a 19 Echo (M60A3 tank crewman) prior to commissioning.
His notable assignments include a combat command as Troop Commander of Team Vandal, 1st Squadron, 131st Cavalry, COB Speicher, MND-North, during Operation Iraqi Freedom, 07-08; Squadron Executive Officer, 1st Squadron, 131st Cavalry, ALARNG, Enterprise, Alabama; Troop Commander, Troop C (Crazy Horse), 1st Squadron, 131st Cavalry, ALARNG, Florala, Alabama; Company Commander, HHC, 1st Battalion, 131st Armor, ALARNG, Ozark, Alabama; Logistics Officer (S4), 1st Battalion, 131st Armor, ALARNG, Ozark, AL, as well as company executive officer and tank platoon leader within the 1st Battalion, 131st Armor, ALARNG. He also served five years with the 22nd Recruiting and Retention Battalion, ALARNG, in a variety of positions, to include Operations and Training Officer, Recruit Sustainment Program Commander, Recruiting Task Force South Commander, and, finally, Deputy Commander. In his most recent assignment, he served as the Brigade Training Officer for the 122nd Troop Command, ALARNG, in Selma, Alabama.
MAJ Van Horn’s military education includes the Cavalry Leader’s Course, the Armor Captain’s Career Course, the Armor Officer Basic Course, and the Senior Human Resource Management Qualification Course. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Unit Commendation (Iraq 07-08), the Meritorious Service Medal (1 BOLC), the Army Commendation Medal (3 BOLC), the Army Achievement Medal (1 BOLC), the Iraq Campaign Medal (w/ Iraqi Surge Campaign Star), and the Humanitarian Service Medal.
Major Van Horn is married to Cayce Gordy Van Horn, and they have two sons, Patton and Bastian.
